A mysterious note delivered to TMZ early on Wednesday morning claims to identify the person responsible for the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie—but the sender wants payment first.

The note, which TMZ said it received just before 5 a.m. PT, says that the sender attempted to contact Savannah Guthrie's siblings—her brother Camron Guthrie and her sister Annie Guthrie—by email and text without success. The message makes a direct proposition: "If they want the name of the individual involved then I want 1 Bitcoin to the following wallet. Time is more than relevant," according to <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/02/11/new-nancy-guthrie-note-demands-bitcoin-for-suspect-information/">TMZ</a>.

The note includes a bitcoin wallet address that differs from the one contained in the original ransom note, which was sent to TMZ and two Tucson television stations earlier this month. One bitcoin is currently valued at roughly $67,000—notably above the $50,000 reward law enforcement is offering for tips leading to those responsible for Guthrie's disappearance.

TMZ said it forwarded the note to the FBI. Whether the sender has genuine knowledge of the case remains unknown.

The new note surfaced on the <a href="https://www.ntd.com/man-says-he-was-questioned-about-guthries-disappearance-before-being-released_1125488.html">same day</a> a delivery driver publicly declared he has no connection to the case after being stopped and questioned by authorities.

The man, who identified himself as Carlos, told reporters on Tuesday evening outside his home in Rio Rico, Arizona, that he was detained on suspicions of kidnapping Guthrie and later released.

"I hope they get the suspect because I ain't it," Carlos said.

Carlos said he works as a package delivery driver for GLS. He said he was shocked that law enforcement focused on him and said authorities searched both his home and vehicle.

"They better do their job and get the suspect who did it, so I can clear my name," he said. "I'm done.”

The Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed on Tuesday night that an individual had been detained during a traffic stop south of Tucson and was questioned in connection with the investigation.

FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://www.ntd.com/patel-says-fbi-looking-at-multiple-persons-of-interest-in-guthrie-case_1125504.html">said</a> Tuesday that the bureau is pursuing "persons of interest" tied to Guthrie's disappearance.

"We were able to exploit information pursuant to our private sector partner engagements that showed us that there might be persons of interest in and around the area related to this event," Patel told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

"First and foremost, our priority is to find Nancy Guthrie," Patel said. He added that the FBI has made "substantial progress" over recent days thanks to the bureau's "technical capabilities" and its partnerships.

Earlier on Tuesday, the FBI released doorbell camera images showing a masked individual wearing thick gloves and carrying a full backpack approaching Guthrie's front door the morning she vanished. The person appeared armed and used plants in an attempt to obstruct the camera's view.

The footage had initially been inaccessible because the camera was disconnected and lacked a subscription service.

Savannah Guthrie shared the images on Instagram, writing: "Someone out there recognizes this person. Bring her home.” The post drew thousands of comments within minutes.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen Jan. 31 at her home in an affluent Tucson neighborhood and was reported missing Feb. 1. Investigators discovered what they described as a "crime scene" inside the home, and her blood was found on the front porch.

The Guthrie family has posted multiple videos pleading for her return, initially asking the abductor to make contact with them and expressing willingness to pay. In recent days, Savannah Guthrie has shifted her appeals toward the public, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office said no press conferences are scheduled for Wednesday but indicated a briefing would be held if new developments arise.
