The Senate is currently voting on the confirmation of Linda McMahon as the next secretary of education. Meanwhile, with government funding expiring in less than two weeks, Democratic lawmakers are threatening Republicans with a government shutdown if the Trump administration continues what they see as the withholding of congressionally approved funds.

Wildfires continue to rage across South Carolina, with 175 fires scorching over 4,200 acres statewide. Fire crews are battling blazes in multiple counties, including Horry, Spartanburg, Union, Oconee, and Pickens. On Sunday, Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency as fires swept through the Carolinas and Georgia, threatening homes and forcing evacuations.
