Abbott officially announced he will not follow the Biden administration’s request to vacate the border. Former President Donald Trump has also expressed his support for the state's actions.

During his defamation civil trial in New York, President Trump abruptly left the courtroom while E. Jean Carroll's lawyers were delivering their closing argument. Ms. Carroll's lawyer criticized President Trump for leaving, and the judge noted the incident in the record.
