The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of New York City and Westchester County until early on Tuesday morning.

Forecasters warned that excessive runoff could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, including streets, streams, and other flood-prone zones. New Yorkers have been urged to monitor weather alerts and to be prepared to take action if flooding occurs.

Roads and underpasses in Central and Southwest New York were overwhelmed by heavy rains over the weekend.

And in New York City, a separate heat advisory is also in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with the heat index expected to exceed 100 degrees.

New York City Emergency Management is opening cooling centers across the five boroughs and urging residents, especially older adults and those with health conditions, to seek relief in air-conditioned spaces.
