Crowds gathered on Tuesday night to kick off New York City's holiday season at the annual tree lighting in Bryant Park’s Bank of America Winter Village.

The celebration featured ice skating performances, songs, and plenty of Christmas cheer. This year's Christmas tree towers 45 feet high and weighs in at more than 8,000 pounds. It's been decorated with over 1,200 ornaments and 12,000 lights.

The winter village, which features eateries, shops, and the skating rink, will be open to the public through March 2.
