A continuing crime spike in New York City has led the NYPD's Police Benevolent Association to endorse Republican Nicole Malliotakis for congress on Monday. The union has already endorsed President Donald Trump. Most recently, the New York State troopers also announced their support for Trump.

According to the NYPD, from Aug. 21 to  the morning of Aug. 24, there were a total of 35 shootings with 46 people shot. Nine people were killed.

The city has seen an 88 percent <a href="https://compstat.nypdonline.org/2e5c3f4b-85c1-4635-83c6-22b27fe7c75c/view/89">increase</a> in shooting victims so far this year compared to last year.

"And it's happened in a three- or four-month period. And whats the correlation? It's the short staffing, it's the disrespect towards police officers, it's the city council changing the rules for procedure that make it impossible to do our job," President of the Police Benevolent Association, Pat Lynch told NTD.

Lynch said it's not about selecting the right party, but about selecting the candidate that has what they call the right idea for public safety in New York City and for the country.

Lynch said, "So Republican, Democrat, Independent, we don't care. Who has the right ideas, who's going to stand with us, and more importantly, who's going to lead us?"
