During his speech, Sébastien Delogu, a member of the left-wing parliamentary group, waved a Palestinian flag to protest the ongoing Israeli bombardment of Gaza. This act elicited immediate reactions from the assembly, with members of parliament applauding Mr. Delogu. However, National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet deemed the action “unacceptable,” leading to Mr. Delogu’s removal, a two-week expulsion, and a wage reduction.

The incident highlights the deep political tensions in France, especially following the recent Israeli strike on a Rafah evacuation zone.
