A person has been detained in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.

On Tuesday night, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a <a href="https://x.com/PimaSheriff/status/2021424732676280546?s=20">statement</a> posted on X that, “Earlier today, Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies detained a subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson.

“The subject is currently being questioned in connection to the Nancy Guthrie investigation,” the statement read.

The statement added, “Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

In a separate post a few minutes later, the department<a href="https://x.com/PimaSheriff/status/2021425526569935277?s=20"> said</a>, “No press conference is scheduled at this time.”

A Phoenix, Arizona, television station, KNXV-TV, interviewed a delivery man who said he had been detained by police on suspicions of kidnapping Guthrie. He said he and his wife pulled the car over when they noticed that police were following them. The man, who gave only his first name as "Carlos," said he was innocent and that police released him after several hours. His account could not be independently verified. Local and federal authorities have not confirmed that the person they detained was released.

Earlier Tuesday, the FBI <a href="https://www.ntd.com/fbi-releases-images-of-armed-masked-individual-at-nancy-guthries-home_1125285.html">released</a> surveillance images showing an armed individual approaching Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance. The person wears a ski mask, a backpack, and gloves, and attempts to use a plant to cover the door camera.

The doorbell camera had been removed since Nancy Gutherie’s disappearance, and there was no subscription service.

FBI Director Kash Patel said agents recovered the footage from “residual data located in backend systems.”

“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors—including the removal of recording devices,” Patel wrote on X.

Savannah Guthrie<a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUlnfdsEWAL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA=="> shared</a> the images on Instagram, writing, “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home."

It remains uncertain if the person detained by law enforcement is the same individual captured on security video at Nancy Guthrie's home.

With a constant heavy media presence in the area, SWAT trucks were also filmed on Tuesday.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI’s Evidence Response Team were conducting a court-authorized search late Tuesday night at a location in Rio Rico, Arizona, the department said in a statement.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Jan. 31. She was reported missing from her Tucson home on Feb. 1.

On<a href="https://www.ntd.com/savannah-guthrie-makes-urgent-plea-for-help-in-mothers-disappearance_1125059.html"> Monday</a>, Savannah Guthrie asked the public to help locate her missing mother. She said that her family entered “an hour of desperation” as the search continued into another week.

The renewed plea was made just hours before a ransom deadline reportedly set by Nancy Guthrie’s alleged abductors.

Multiple media outlets have received letters, purportedly from the kidnappers, demanding money for Guthrie’s safe return. Authorities stated that every tip is being thoroughly investigated.

A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information can contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
