A persistent heat wave continues to scorch Southern California, with dangerously high temperatures gripping the region.

The National Weather Service has issued heat warnings as conditions remain well above normal for this time of year.

Meteorologists say a strong high-pressure system, or a heat dome, is trapping hot air over the region and driving temperatures far above normal on the west coast. Friday’s highs are expected to reach around 95 degrees in downtown Los Angeles, and up to 102 degrees in Riverside and San Bernardino, with Anaheim near 94.
