The Democratic primary in New York’s 16th congressional district will see a face-off between progressive Rep. Jamaal Bowman and Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

According to Gerard Filitti, a civil and human rights attorney who is also a senior counsel at The Lawfare Project, the race could well serve as a “wake-up call” for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Mr. Filitti said this is because voters are increasingly referring to the need for Representatives to focus on the issues affecting their district, including taxation, job opportunities, and economic growth—instead of focusing on broader issues such as foreign affairs.
