The United States has seen a rise in mass shootings recently with at least 39 of them in January and over 60 people killed. Specific prevention measures include California Gov. Gavin Newsom and state leaders announcing more gun control laws, after the back-to-back tragedies in the state.

Former FBI special agent, Greg Shaffer, told NTD that household gun statistics haven’t changed much in the last 30 years, but the frequency of violence has. He attributed the rise in mass shootings to a lack of mental health care, harmful prescription drugs, and lowered church attendance. Shaffer also outlined prevention methods and what to do when confronted with an active shooter.
