Mexican authorities uncovered a 72-foot tunnel used to siphon fuel from a state-owned pipeline in Hidalgo state on Feb. 17. The tunnel ran from a rural home near Tepetitlán to two illegal taps on the underground line.

Security forces seized drugs at the site, though no arrests have been reported so far. The pipeline was identified as a Pemex conduit linking the Tula and Salamanca refineries. Pemex reported nearly 11,800 illegal pipeline taps in 2024 as fuel theft remains a multibillion-dollar trade in the country.
