NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea told Spectrum News 2020 will end with a 14-year high in gun violence.

As of Monday, the city saw over 1,000 shooting incidents and almost 2,000 gun violence victims this year. That's nearly double last year’s numbers over the same time.

Nancy, a New Jersey resident visiting from New Jersey, said she doesn't feel good about the new stats.

"Not good, I mean, who would? Who would feel good about more shootings?"

Recent shooting incidents struck multiple city boroughs.

Near Times Square in Manhattan, a 52-year-old man was shot during an argument with another man. And in Queens, an elderly man was struck by a stray bullet while sleeping in his nursing home.

The NYPD Commissioner blamed New York's bail reform law for the surge in gun violence. He added he doesn't believe shooting numbers will go down when the pandemic is over.
