A student in Texas who mocked the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been ousted from the university, according to officials on Tuesday.

The move comes after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1967986189136519573">publicly called</a> for the student's immediate expulsion over his actions caught in a <a href="https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1968079410487325183/video/1">viral video</a>.

Texas State University (TXST) President Kelley Damphouse confirmed in a <a href="https://www.president.txst.edu/communications/statement-september-16-2025.html">letter to students</a> that the unidentified person in the "disturbing video” is no longer a student at TXST.

The footage shows the student cursing the slain activist and imitating the way he died.

“Although federal law prevents me or the university from commenting on individual student conduct manners, I can report that the individual is no longer a student at TXST,” Kelley Damphouse wrote in a Sept. 16 <a href="https://www.president.txst.edu/communications/statement-september-16-2025.html">statement</a>.

Damphouse added that the student’s actions don’t reflect the university’s beliefs. The university president also called for “a time of calm” and “measured response and dialogue” and urged students to keep each other safe.

The expulsion marks the second ousting of a college student in the Lone Star State.

Another <a href="https://x.com/FourGMedia/status/1967639982375571540">viral video</a> shows a student dancing, jumping, and yelling "[Expletive] y'all homie dead" to students who were gathered on campus to mourn Kirk’s death on Sept. 12.

The student, identified as 18-year-old Camryn Giselle Booker, also appeared to taunt a man on campus by flicking his “Make America Great Again” hat, the footage shows.

Booker was arrested by Texas Tech Police and was charged with assault.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott shared an image of Booker’s arrest on X, saying: “Definitely picked the wrong school to taunt the death of Charlie Kirk. Thanks Texas Tech.”

In an emailed statement to NTD, Lubbock County Sheriff’s spokesperson Tracie Manthei confirmed that the student was booked in jail last Friday and posted a $200 cash bond the next day.

"Any behavior that denigrates victims of violence is reprehensible, has no place on our campus, and does not align with our values," Texas Tech said in a <a href="https://x.com/TexasTech/status/1967630775420862486">statement</a>. "Federal law prevents Texas Tech University from commenting on individual student conduct matters. We take all reported violations seriously and address them under university policy and the law."

More than 100 educators in Texas are also being investigated for their alleged actions that incited violence following Kirk's killing, according to the <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1967686867689902503">governor</a>.

Those educators "will have their teacher certifications suspended and be ineligible to teach" at any public schools in the state, the governor said.

In addition to students and teachers, others across the nation have faced suspension or termination over comments or actions.

MSNBC fired analyst Matthew Dowd following comments he made about Kirk that the network deemed inappropriate and insensitive.

“There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise,” MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler wrote in a <a href="https://x.com/MSNBCPR/status/1965913652671754280">statement</a>.

Kirk, the founder of the youth organization Turning Point USA, was well-known for visiting college campuses and holding debates with students. He was assassinated on Sept. 10 while speaking to a crowd at the first event of his organization’s “American Comeback” tour.

The Texas governor has called for a “dramatic course correction” for those who celebrate an assassination.

“We as a society, we as a state, must send a signal that celebrating the assassination of a free speech advocate is wrong in a civil society,” <a href="https://x.com/GregAbbott_TX/status/1968072969131004332">Abbott said</a>.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has also weighed in on the issue, stressing that hate speech that crosses the line into threats of violence is not protected by the First Amendment.
