Thousands of runners from Budapest to Berlin to Liverpool, put on their best Santa Claus costumes over the weekend to take part in their city's holiday fun run.

First staged in 2004, the event in Liverpool is one of the UK's largest festive fun runs and marks the start of the city's Christmas celebrations.

Red-robed finishers in Berlin also received a chocolate Santa after crossing the finish line, organized by volunteers from a local run club.

In Hungary, the Budapest sports office organised its city's Santa fun run along the banks of the River Danube, with 4,500 people taking part. They said they want the run to send a message that an active lifestyle is essential for both the young and the old.
