President Donald Trump has officially opened the waiting list and launched a website for his new “Gold Card” visa program, a $5 million initiative he says will create a premium pathway to U.S. residency and, eventually, citizenship.

Those interested can join the waiting list on the newly launched <a href="https://trumpcard.gov/">trumpcard.gov</a>.

The Gold Card is intended to replace the decades-old EB-5 investor visa, and Trump says the program will attract “wealthy and successful” individuals who can stimulate the U.S. economy and help address the national debt.

“FOR FIVE MILLION $DOLLARS, THE TRUMP CARD IS COMING! Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World. It's called THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! THE WAITING LIST IS NOW OPEN,” Trump wrote in a June 11 <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114667321433310931">post</a> on Truth Social.
<h2>A New Pathway for the Wealthy</h2>
The Gold Card program, as described by Trump, would require foreign applicants to pay a nonrefundable $5 million fee in exchange for a card that offers permanent residency, work privileges, and a path to citizenship.

“We're going to be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card. We're going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million and that's going to give you Green Card privileges, plus it's going to be a route to citizenship, and wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card,” Trump said in a February White House <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBfvxKo8r2Q">interview</a>.

Trump said that recipients would not become citizens automatically but would have a “very strong path to citizenship.” He said the program would not require congressional approval because it does not directly grant citizenship, instead providing a pathway.

“No, we don't need Congress. Because we're not doing citizenship. We're doing the card. It's a path. It's a path to citizenship, a very strong path to citizenship,” Trump explained.
<h2>Economic Ambitions and National Debt</h2>
Trump has touted the Gold Card as a potential solution to the nation’s debt. “If we sell a million, that's five trillion dollars,” he said, suggesting the program could generate significant revenue for the federal government.

He added that if 10 million cards were sold, it could bring in $50 trillion, far exceeding the current national debt.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick <a href="https://www.ntd.com/what-to-know-about-trumps-5-million-gold-card-proposal_1050617.html">explained</a> that the Gold Card would replace the EB-5 program, which has been criticized for being “poorly overseen, poorly executed.”

The EB-5 currently requires investments of $1,050,000 in a U.S. business or $800,000 in targeted employment areas, as well as the creation of 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers. The Gold Card, at $5 million, would be at least 6.25 times more expensive for applicants.
<h2>Business and Workforce Impacts</h2>
Trump and Lutnick have said that companies could use the Gold Card to bring in highly skilled employees, such as top graduates from elite universities, and that the program will attract “wonderful, world-class global citizens” who will pay taxes and create jobs.

“They'll be wealthy and they'll be successful and they'll be spending a lot of money and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people, and we think it's going to be extremely successful,” Trump said.
<h2>Vetting and Eligibility</h2>
Trump indicated that the vetting process for Gold Card applicants is still being developed, with the possibility of restrictions based on individual backgrounds rather than country of origin. “Largely, the people will be vetted very carefully,” Trump said.
