President Donald Trump on Monday said the war with Iran will be over soon.

In a speech to House Republicans Monday, Trump described Operation Epic Fury as an “overwhelming display of skill and technical force” but vowed that it would be short-lived.

"It's going to be finished pretty quickly," Trump told Republican lawmakers.

The party's politicians were gathered for their annual caucus retreat at Trump’s resort in Doral, Florida where he made the comments.

<span style="font-weight: 400;">"We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some evil," the president said on March 9. "I think you'll see it is going to be a short-term excursion." </span>

Trump was reacting to his decision to pre-emptively strike Iran on Feb. 28, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the Israeli Defense Forces. Within the first 24 hours. U.S. and Israeli forces struck more than 1,000 targets of the Iranian regime and its proxies in the region.

While the U.S. initiative is labeled Operation Epic Fury, the Israeli mission has been named Operation Rising Lion.

"Together with our Israeli partners, we're rushing the enemy in an overwhelming display of skill and technical force," Trump told the cheering crowd. Iran's drone and missile capability is being utterly demolished."

Trump boasted that U.S.-Israeli strikes specifically sank 46 Iranian ships in 3.5 days, obliterated drone factories, and neutralized 80 percent of Iran's missile launchers.

"If we didn't do that, they would have had a nuclear weapon within 2 weeks,” he said. “We have won in many ways but not enough. We go forward more determined than ever to achieve ultimate victory that will end this long running danger once and for all.”

One of the first casualties of the surprise attack was Iran’s 86-year-old religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on March 1. Khamenei had led the Islamic Republic since 1989.

Following the strikes, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responded with strikes on military targets in Israel, the U.S. 5th Fleet’s command in Bahrain, as well as U.S. bases and targets in Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and other Gulf nations.

“Iran was supposed to be this big powerful country and we wrapped the hell out of them,” Trump said. “I don’t know when they will cry uncle. They should have cried it two days ago. They don’t have anything left.”

Seven American soldiers have been killed in the operation. They were identified as Capt. Cody A. Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida; Sgt. 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska; Sgt. 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; Sgt. Declan J. Coady, 20, of West Des Moines, Iowa; Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien, 45, of Waukee, Iowa; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Marzan, 54, of Sacramento, California; and Sgt. Benjamin Pennington, 26, of Glendale, Kentucky.

Trump said that when he traveled to Dover Air Force Base on March 7 to receive the remains of the first six fallen soldiers and meet with their families, they all told him the same thing.

“Make sure you win, sir,” Trump recounted to the cheering crowd. “They weren’t playing games. It is a beautiful thing but it is also a very sad thing. Dover does a great job handling things. They have men and women assigned to the families.”

Domestically, Trump made a passionate plea for the expansion of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to secure what Republicans see as election integrity by <span style="font-weight: 400;">limiting mail-in ballots to illness, disability, military, and travel, and mandating voter identification and proof of citizenship.</span>

“I don’t think we should approve anything until this is approved,” Trump said. “It’s actually a matter, in a serious way, of national survival. There is not a country in the world that does mail-in ballots anymore. France tried it and failed. They went to paper ballots. Most of them are doing paper ballots, except us.”
