President Donald Trump signed a $1.2 trillion spending bill Tuesday that ends the partial government shutdown.

"I'm thrilled to sign the Consolidated Appropriations Act to immediately reopen the federal government, and fund the vast majority of operations through the rest of the fiscal year,” <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/2018798655063343523">Trump said. </a>

The measure funds most of the federal government through Sept. 30, while providing DHS with short-term funding for two weeks.

The House passed the bill earlier in the day in a 217–214 vote following a debate in Congress over Homeland Security funding in the wake of two shooting deaths involving federal agents in Minneapolis.

Lawmakers will return to negotiate potential changes for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as Democrats demand more restrictions on its operations.

“We have to work through individual members’ concerns. That’s the game here. It’s a consensus-building operation. We do it every day,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told reporters.

House Democrats have demanded that it include new reforms on Trump's immigration enforcement operations. Hardline Republicans, on the other hand, have called for other provisions to be included in the package, including the requirement to show proof of U.S. citizenship in order to vote.

Johnson needed near-unanimous support from his Republican conference in a procedural vote to proceed to a final vote. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the sole Republican to vote against advancing the bill for a vote.

The legislation would avert widespread disruption to government services and the economy. The most recent shutdown lasted a record 43 days in October and November, furloughing hundreds of thousands of federal workers and costing the U.S. economy an estimated $11 billion.

The Trump-backed deal passed the Senate last week by a wide bipartisan margin.

Ahead of the vote, Trump called on Republicans to stay united in a social media post Monday, telling holdouts: “There can be NO CHANGES at this time.”

“I am working hard with Speaker Johnson to get the current funding deal, which passed in the Senate last week, through the House and to my desk, where I will sign it into Law, IMMEDIATELY! We need to get the Government open, and I hope all Republicans and Democrats will join me in supporting this Bill, and send it to my desk WITHOUT DELAY,” Truth <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116002871169002695">wrote on Truth Social</a>.

Trump vowed to “work together” to address the issues that have been raised but urged Congress to act in order to prevent another shutdown.
