A new strain of the CCP virus in the UK has triggered a wave of people leaving London. At least 27 countries have banned travel from the UK so far.

On Sunday morning, London, the southeast, and the east of England were moved into the strictest lockdown level. People aren't supposed to enter or leave these areas.

Only days ago, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the lockdowns would be relaxed for Christmas. That's now been scrapped.

Johnson said the new strain could be up to 70 percent more contagious than the older one.

The new strain has been reported in Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Australia.

The UK has reported more than 2 million CCP virus cases and more than 67,000 deaths so far.

The border between England and France has already been congested. And it was expected to get worse with the Brexit cut off at the end of the month. Now France is closing the border between the two countries until further notice—which could make the situation much worse.

The First Minister of Scotland is calling for the Brexit transition period to be extended to be able to deal with the new strain.
