U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on X on Tuesday that it carried out an airstrike in Syria last week, killing a suspected attack planner linked to al-Qaeda. The strike took place on Oct. 2 and targeted Muhammad ‘Abd-al-Wahhab al-Ahmad, identified as a member of the group Ansar al-Islam, an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group.

“U.S. forces in the Middle East remain postured to disrupt and defeat efforts by terrorists to plan, organize, and conduct attacks,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, in a statement. “We will continue to defend our homeland, warfighters, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond.”
