The United States has seized a pair of sanctioned oil tankers linked to Venezuela, officials confirmed Wednesday.

The vessels were apprehended during two, back-to-back operations in the North Atlantic and the Caribbean.

“Under President Trump’s bold and visionary leadership, US Coast Guard tactical teams worked closely with its counterparts at the Departments of War, Department of Justice and State and used their specialized expertise to conduct these operations and conduct two safe, effective boardings within hours of each other,” Homeland Security Secretary <a href="https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/2008907194691915945?s=20">Noem wrote on X</a>.

Noem added that both tankers were “either last docked in Venezuela or en route to it.”

The Motor Tanker Bella 1 was apprehended following a two-week long pursuit in international waters. The U.S. European Command confirmed the seizure of Bella for violating U.S. sanctions.

"The vessel was seized in the North Atlantic pursuant to a warrant issued by a U.S. federal court after being tracked by USCGC Munro," it <a href="https://x.com/US_EUCOM/status/2008897287691399504">stated on X</a>.

Russia had deployed a submarine and other vessels to escort the sanctioned tanker. The tanker’s seizure could prompt tensions with Russia. The vessel had previously slipped through a U.S. maritime blockade of sanctioned tankers.

Noem said the tanker had been trying to evade the Coast Guard for weeks and even changed its flag and painted a new name while it was being pursued in what she described as "a desperate and failed attempt to escape justice."

The tanker’s seizure came after Noem praised the work of Coast Guard tactical teams to successfully carry out the mission.

“The heroic crew of the USCGC Munro pursued this vessel across the high seas and through treacherous storms— keeping diligent watch, and protecting our country with the determination and patriotism that make Americans proud,” Noem said. “These brave men and women deserve our nation’s thanks for their selfless devotion to duty.”

The United States on Wednesday also announced that it <a href="https://x.com/Southcom/status/2008905619424620879?s=20">apprehended the Motor Tank Sophia</a> for "conducting illicit activities in the Caribbean Sea" and operating in international waters.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the blockade of sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains in “full effect” following the back-to-back predawn operations to seize the vessels.

"The United States continues to enforce the blockade against all dark fleet vessels illegally transporting Venezuelan oil to finance illicit activity, stealing from the Venezuelan people. Only legitimate and lawful energy commerce—as determined by the U.S.—will be permitted,” Hegseth <a href="https://x.com/PeteHegseth/status/2008914128472006774">wrote on X</a>.

The seizures come just days after U.S. military forces conducted a successful surprise nighttime raid in Caracas to capture Nicolas Maduro and his wife. They are currently in federal custody and face narcoterrorism and weapons charges.

Days after Maduro was captured, President Donald Trump said Venezuela would "turn over" 30 million to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States.
