Images of a new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump circulated widely on social media on Oct. 3 in preparation for America’s 250th birthday in 2026.

The draft images of the new $1 coin first appeared in a post from conservative communicator Steve Guest, who posted, “ATTENTION ALL PATRIOTS: America is back, and so is the one-dollar coin,” adding that Trump “will forever be the face of America’s 250th Birthday.”

Treasurer Brandon Beach reposted the images, <a href="https://x.com/TreasurerBeach/status/1974156375891804229">writing</a>, “No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real. Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later reposted Beach’s comments.

The draft coin design shows Trump’s profile on one side and a second image drafted to look like a photograph taken last year during an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, when Trump raised his fist while being escorted off stage by Secret Service agents. At the top of the coin, it reads, “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT,” which is what Trump said that same day, when he got up after being shot in the ear.

A Treasury spokesperson told NTD that “despite the radical left’s forced shutdown of our government, the facts are clear: Under the historic leadership of President Donald J. Trump, our nation is entering its 250th anniversary stronger, more prosperous, and better than ever before.”

“While a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected to commemorate the United States’ semiquincentennial, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles. We look forward to sharing more soon,” the Treasury spokesperson said.

Under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, the U.S. Mint is allowed to issue special $1 coins in 2026 to mark America’s 250th anniversary. Currency and coins follow different rules: the Bureau of Engraving and Printing makes paper currency, while the Mint makes coins. Living people cannot appear on currency, but they can be featured on coins. The law also places limits on coin designs, regarding the amount of portrait that can be on the reverse side of a coin.

The coin will mark the United States' 205th birthday. A countdown clock on the White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/america250/">website</a> shows fewer than 275 days until the celebration.

The website features a video series titled "The Story of America," created in partnership with Hillsdale College, providing “a history series that tells the remarkable story of American Independence.”

In Jan. 2025, Trump signed an executive order establishing the White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday, known as Task Force 250.

“Task Force 250 invites citizens to have a renewed love of American history, experience the beauty of our country, and ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation that will raise our nation to new heights over the next 250 years,” the website states.

The task force <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/celebrating-americas-250th-birthday/">includes</a> key cabinet members such as the secretaries of state, treasury, defense, and education, as well as the heads of major cultural agencies, including the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The president serves as the Chair of Task Force 250, and the vice president serves as vice chair.

On Independence Day 2025, the U.S. Mint also kicked off the official countdown to the nation’s 250th anniversary. To mark the Semiquincentennial, most circulating coins will receive new designs under the authority of the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, <a href="https://www.usmint.gov/coins/coin-programs/semiquincentennial/">according</a> to the site.

The top three all-time best-selling commemorative coins issued by the Mint are the Statue of Liberty Centennial Coin from 1986, which sold 15.5 million units; the George Washington 250th Anniversary Half Dollar from 1982, with 7.1 million units sold; and the Los Angeles Olympic Games Coin from 1984, which sold 5 million units. These <a href="https://www.usmint.gov/about/production-sales-figures/historical-commemorative-coin-sales">numbers are based</a> on sales data collected since the 1980s by the United States Mint.

For the past 10 years, the top three best-selling coins are: the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary coin from 2019, with 621,583 units sold; the Marshals Service 225th Anniversary coin from 2015, which sold 300,901 units; and the Basketball Hall of Fame coin from 2020, with 222,581 units sold.
