Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday announced visa restrictions on foreign nationals involved in censoring Americans. In a post on X, Rubio said that “Americans have been fined, harassed, and even charged by foreign authorities for exercising their free speech rights.”

There is at least one prominent case that may provide an example. In 2023, Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered Trump Media and its platforms Rumble and Truth Social to remove the accounts of a prominent supporter of Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro. But a U.S. federal judge has since ruled that case invalid.
