Home equity, or the difference between your home’s value and the amount you still owe on your mortgage, has surged 142 percent nationwide since 2020, according to Bankrate.com. It’s good news for homeowners.

“It’s primarily due to increasing home prices. A little bit is homeowners paying down debt, but primarily we’ve just seen enormous increases across almost all states,” Bankrate financial analyst Stephen Kates told NTD News.

More than two dozen states have recorded triple-digit increases in home equity in the past five years, with West Virginia (450 percent) leading the pack.
