Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been <a href="https://www.ntd.com/disappearance-of-savannah-guthries-mother-being-investigated-as-a-crime_1123410.html">missing</a> from her home in the Catalina Foothills and was last seen Jan. 31. Her disappearance is a suspected crime, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

On Monday night, Savannah Guthrie posted on social media, asking for prayers for her mother and writing: “We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him.”

Savannah Guthrie expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, describing her mother as "a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant." She urged others to keep praying and included a message of faith: “He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.”

“Bring her home,” she wrote.
<h2>Tuesday’s Updates</h2>
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and FBI Tucson Chief John Edwards held a press conference at 1:30 p.m. ET to provide updates and answer media questions. Due to high media attention, he said that future updates will come via press conferences unless there is breaking news.

The next scheduled press briefing from the sheriff’s department is set for Thursday. Investigators are reviewing hundreds of public tips but have not yet developed any solid leads.

He said they are looking at both possibilities of this incident being targeted or a random abduction, and are assuming both sides are possible.

FBI Tucson Chief John Edwards emphasized, “We are looking at this from every angle, but we need your help.” He urged anyone who saw anything on the night of Jan. 31 or the morning of Feb. 1 to contact authorities and help bring Nancy home.

Nanos assured the public there is no ongoing threat, explaining that investigators do not believe this was a case of someone targeting elderly residents at night. However, he emphasized they believe Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home against her will.

Nanos said investigators are not focused on stolen items from Nancy Guthrie’s home, but rather on reviewing DNA evidence and security camera footage. "We still don’t have any suspects," he said.

Authorities are working to obtain security footage from technology companies, but are still awaiting a response. During the press conference, a reporter pointed out that the security camera at Nancy’s home appeared to be missing. Sheriff Nanos expressed frustration, stating he still does not have the footage.
<h2>Reports of Ransom Note</h2>
Officials <a href="https://x.com/PimaSheriff/status/2018789092096381233?s=20">confirmed</a> in a social media post on Tuesday that they are aware of reports about a possible ransom note in the disappearance of Guthrie.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a social media update that it is “aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s)” linked to the investigation and is “taking all tips and leads very seriously.”

The department added that “anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.” Authorities also encouraged those with information to submit tips via a posted QR code shared on their social media post.

On Tuesday afternoon at 2:41 p.m. ET, TMZ <a href="https://x.com/TMZ/status/2018771908796235822?s=20">reported</a> receiving a ransom note via email related to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. In a social media video, TMZ founder Harvey Levin explained that the note demanded a large sum, reportedly in Bitcoin, for Guthrie’s return. He said the email included details about her clothing and alleged damage to her home. TMZ forwarded the message to law enforcement.
<h2><strong>Police Declare Home a Crime Scene</strong></h2>
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home near Skyline Drive and Campbell Avenue in the Catalina Foothills around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 31.

After she missed a scheduled church service on Sunday, her family checked on her and called 911 around noon to report her missing.

Pima County sheriff’s investigators believe she was forcibly taken from her home. Nanos announced Monday that the residence is now classified as a crime scene, with evidence collected so far indicating possible foul play.

He told reporters that after processing the residence, “we do in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime,” and urged the public for help.

Nanos said, “I believe she was abducted, yes … She didn’t walk from there. She didn’t go willingly.” Police emphasize that Guthrie’s limited mobility makes it unlikely she left on her own.

<a href="https://www.today.com/news/savannah-guthrie-mom-missing-arizona-rcna257021">According</a> to NBC, Nanos reported that possible DNA evidence was found at the crime scene. “We took some samples that we hope will have enough profile of a DNA profile that gives us some identification of what we’re looking at,” he said. Nanos added it may take several days for investigators to obtain conclusive results from the samples.

Surveillance cameras are being reviewed by authorities. Ground and aerial searches are being conducted. Authorities have also brought in special units, including search-and-rescue teams and homicide investigators.
<h2><strong>Who Is Savannah Guthrie?</strong></h2>
Savannah Guthrie is a journalist and has been a well-known co-anchor of NBC’s Today show since 2012. She also serves as NBC’s chief legal correspondent. Guthrie holds degrees from the University of Arizona and Georgetown Law, and joined NBC News in 2007.

Savannah Guthrie has played a key role in NBC’s Olympic coverage, including co-hosting Today segments from international venues. She was set to co-host the 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony with Terry Gannon and Shaun White.

Savannah Guthrie married Michael Feldman in 2014. They have two children together. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, is the focus of the current missing-person case in Arizona. Family photos highlight their close relationship.
<h2><strong>Who Is Nancy Guthrie?</strong></h2>
Nancy Guthrie, mother of three including Savannah, was married to Charles Guthrie, a mining engineer. Charles died of a heart attack in 1988. Nancy has lived in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills since the early 1970s.

Nancy <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/savannah-guthrie-talks-tv-news-trump-era-952405/">had</a> been a stay-at-home mom, but after her husband’s death, she returned to work and took a job in public relations at the University of Arizona.

In 2022, Savannah <a href="https://www.today.com/parents/moms/savannah-guthrie-mom-nancy-guthrie-selfless-act-rcna84183">described</a> the close bond she shared with her mother, "My father died when I was entering my senior year in high school. I then lived at home all through college. We didn't have money to afford the dorm. And that was thing one, but the other was that my sister and I really felt like we should stick with my mom and not leave her alone.”

Law enforcement describes Nancy as:

Officials report she is mentally sharp but has health issues and limited mobility. She relies on daily medication that is essential for her survival.
<h2><strong>About the Arizona Area</strong></h2>
The Catalina Foothills, north of Tucson, is a suburban and semi-rural area known for its desert landscape, winding roads, and views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Homes typically have large lots and desert plants.

Cold winter nights in the area, combined with Guthrie’s mobility issues and reliance on daily medication, heighten concerns for her safety.
<h2><strong>Public Appeal and Reward Offered</strong></h2>
Authorities <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/187muQ5tK2/">urge</a> anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. A reward of up to $2,500 is offered for tips leading to an arrest in the case.

As of Tuesday, Feb. 3, Nancy Guthrie remains missing, and the investigation continues.
