A Pennsylvania woman has been arrested for allegedly impersonating nurses and fraudulently treating patients.

Shannon Nicole Womack, 39, was arrested on Monday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Womack allegedly used 20 different aliases during the scheme, police <a href="https://www.pa.gov/agencies/psp/newsroom/psp-seeking-help-with-ongoing-investigation-into-fraudulent-nurs">said</a> in a press release on Wednesday.

The investigation first began when state troopers conducted a routine traffic stop in Cecil Township in April, during which Womack provided false identification.

A search warrant of her vehicle later found multiple forms of identification and various medications prescribed to different victims. Authorities also found different pieces of medical equipment and medical documents in her vehicle.

A months-long investigation found Womack posed as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, and registered nurse supervisor at rehabilitation and nursing home facilities across Pennsylvania.

Police allege Womack submitted fraudulently signed documents to staffing agencies to secure those nursing jobs. She even created a false staffing agency to get herself hired, authorities said.

She only worked at each of these jobs for a short time of time, police said.

In Pennsylvania alone, Womack allegedly used 10 aliases: Shannon Nicole Parham, Shannon Nicole Abiola, Shannon Nicole Armstrong, Shannon Abiola-Parham, Shannon Nicole Grimes, Shannon Nicole Womack, Shannon Nicole Lawson, Shannon Nicole Lethco, Shannon Nicole Robinson, and Shannon Lee Lawson.

Womack may have started her scheme during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which nurses were needed at hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.

"She is believed to have begun this racketeering in 2020 and continued it across many states on the eastern side of the country," police <a href="https://x.com/PSPTroopBPIO/status/1947414787782283670">said</a>, although it did not specify which states.

NTD reached out to Pennsylvania State Police for further details but did not receive an immediate response.

Police are now working with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Department of State, and multiple district attorneys and states in the investigation.

Authorities in Pennsylvania urged health care companies to review their employment records amid the ongoing investigation.

Womack has been charged with Corrupt Organizations, Endangering the Welfare of Care, Unlawful Use of a Computer, Identity Theft, Forgery, Theft by Unlawful Taking, and multiple other charges.

Her bail has been set at $250,000, according to <a href="https://ujsportal.pacourts.us/Report/MdjDocketSheet?docketNumber=MJ-27201-CR-0000208-2025&dnh=oKx%2FpD28kKd7GJlqRXVoew%3D%3D">court documents</a>. Her next court appearance was scheduled for July 29. It's unclear whether she has retained legal representation.

The alleged scheme follows a similar incident in Arizona in which a woman who faked being a nurse practitioner during the coronavirus pandemic was sentenced to five years in prison.
