Campers are returning to the largest campground in Yosemite National Park on Friday.

Construction crews could only work during the summer on the 3-year $26 million renovation.

Tuolumne Meadows Campground is one of the largest campgrounds in a U.S. national park. It boasts more than 300 campsites, serving more than 140,000 campers a year.

Built in 1934 by former President Theodore Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps, it was designed to stop visitors from parking in the fragile meadows.

The campground has now rebuilt its water and sewer systems and upgraded its electrical equipment. The campsites have new picnic tables, fire rings, and food lockers.

The project is one of a series of recent multimillion-dollar renovations at the park. This project, among others, was funded by the Great American Outdoors Act, signed into law in 2020. It provided nearly ten billion dollars in new funding for park renovation projects.
