Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday in Florida to discuss final details of a potential peace agreement to end the Russia–Ukraine war.

Zelenskyy said the high-stakes meeting will focus on territory and security guarantees.

"This meeting is specifically for the purpose of finalizing everything as much as we can," <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/zelenskiy-says-he-will-meet-trump-sunday-discuss-ukraine-territory-guarantees-2025-12-26/">Zelenskyy told reporters on Friday.</a>

Trump has previously suggested there has been significant progress and that an agreement between Ukraine and Russia is close.

In a <a href="https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2004253979560042912?s=20">Christmas Day video message</a> on social media, Zelenskyy reiterated the progress but also acknowledged that key issues still need to be addressed.

"Some documents, as I see it, are nearly ready, and some documents are fully prepared," he said. "Of course, there is still work to be done on sensitive issues. But together with the American team, we understand how to put all of this in place."

Russian officials have also been <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-is-analysing-us-documents-ukraine-peace-deal-kremlin-says-2025-12-25/">analyzing the documents,</a> which were brought to Moscow by special envoy Kirill Dmitriev from the United States, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday. Kremlin special envoy Kirill Dmitriev <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-is-analysing-us-documents-ukraine-peace-deal-kremlin-says-2025-12-25/">arrived in Miami on Saturday</a> and held two days of talks with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner.

Several key issues remain unresolved in ongoing negotiations between Ukraine and the United States over a potential framework to end the war with Russia, Zelenskyy said last week.

Speaking about the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ukraine-russia-war-plan-territory-security-zaporizhzhia-3667a0630eae5827d997ec0b98db2ca6">20-point plan under discussion</a>, Zelenskyy said that technical issues remain about the security guarantees that would be provided to Ukraine under any agreement and how those guarantees would be enforced to ensure compliance.

He also said the future of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains unresolved. The facility, which has been under Russian control since early on in the war, has prompted international safety concerns due to fighting nearby.

On Feb. 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine from the north, east, and south. Putin described it as a  “special military operation” aimed at the <a class="Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement" href="https://apnews.com/article/ussia-ukraine-war-live-updates-ddbace81e2e09028e0da1ec37619d148" data-gtm-enhancement-style="LinkEnhancementA">“demilitarization” and “denazification”</a> of the country to protect ethnic Russians, prevent Kyiv’s NATO membership, and to keep it in Russia’s “sphere of influence."

In confirming the upcoming meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy highlighted the urgency of ending the war with Russia.

"We are not losing a single day," <a href="https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2004443773309485550?s=20">he wrote on X</a>, suggesting that significant progress is underway and that "a lot can be decided" before the New Year.
