The New York Cake Show halls were filled with Broadway themed cakes this year. Every show from “Mary Poppins” to “The Color Purple” was turned into a magnificent sweet bakery treat.
Brooklyn bakery owner Ashley Holt won top prize for her “Kinky Boots” cake.
Holt, owner of Sugar Monsters Sweets, talked about the creation process.
“I’ve been working on this on and off for about a month. The boot took me three days straight of sculpting, these lightbulbs are gelatin, there are hand cut sequins on the cake that are also made from gelatin, a very laborious, time consuming process,” she said.
Holt took home a $1,000 prize along with the title of best New York cake maker.
