The 51-year old had been excited to finish what officially became the world’s largest marathon.
He finished the race in under seven hours on Nov. 3 and then disappeared.
The NYPD agreed to assist Ruane’s family and Sussex Police in a search for Ruane.
It was known that the missing marathoner visited Astoria in Queens and midtown Manhattan. Authorities had little to go on.
Then, there was a new development in the case Saturday—the 51-year old contacted his family.
But the family said they still had concerns for his welfare and his exact whereabouts remained unknown.
Later in the afternoon, police said Ruane had been found and was “safe and well.”
