Seven people were killed and one person was seriously injured following two shootings on Monday in separate locations at a coastal community in Northern California, according to police.

San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President Dave Pine said four people were killed at a mushroom farm, and three others were killed at a trucking business.

State Sen. Josh Becker, who represents the area, said the separate shootings took place on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, which is a city located about 30 miles (49 km) south of San Francisco.

A man, who is a suspect in the killings, is in custody, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Twitter just before 5 p.m. local time, adding that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

They later identified the suspect as Zhao Chunli, 67, of Half Moon Bay. He was taken into police custody without incident after he was found in his vehicle in the parking lot of the sheriff’s substation.

Police said they found a semi-automatic handgun in his vehicle.

At a news conference late Monday, police said they responded to a report of a shooting around 2:20 p.m. local time. They found four dead victims with gunshot wounds at the Magic Mushroom Farm. One more person was taken to the hospital with serious gunshot injuries, police told reporters.

Police found three more dead victims at a trucking business on Cabrillo Highway S./Highway 1, which is south to the mushroom farm.

Pine said in a statement on behalf of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors: “We are sickened by today’s tragedy in Half Moon Bay. We have not even had time to grieve for those lost in the terrible shooting in Monterey Park. Gun violence must stop.”

He was referring to a shooting in Monterey Park, in Southern California, which resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people. The shooting took place late on Jan. 21 at Star Dance Studio, a ballroom dance hall. The suspect, Huu Can Tran, 72, was found dead the following day due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a van in Torrance.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom wrote on Twitter that he was “at the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I get pulled away to be briefed about another shooting. This time in Half Moon Bay. Tragedy upon tragedy.”
