Bode Miller, an American former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic and World Championship gold medalist, said that his young daughter died.
Drowning was the cause of death, ESPN reported, citing officials in Southern California.
The 19-month-old, Emeline Miller, died at an Orange County hospital, a day after paramedics tried to revive her after she drowned in a pool.
“We are beyond devastated,” Miller wrote on Instagram. The post showed images of his daughter.
“Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to it’s fullest everyday. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time,” he wrote in the post.
Orange County sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Braun told ESPN that the cause of death is being investigated.
Paramedics were sent to a home in Coto de Caza on Saturday evening, Capt. Tony Bommarito of the Orange County Fire Authority told the network. They rushed her to the emergency room, he said.
“They had no pulses the whole way,” Bommarito said. “It didn’t end well.”
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team wrote on Twitter: “It is with the utmost sadness that we learned today of the passing of @MillerBode’s daughter Emmy. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at U.S. Ski & Snowboard and across the whole snowsports world are with Bode, his wife Morgan and their family at this time.”
