The Omicron strain is able to bypass the protection given by the Pfizer vaccine more than other variants. That’s according to an early study by the African Health Research Institute. NTD spoke with Dr. Robert Lahita who is a director at the Institute for Autoimmune and Rheumatic Disease at Saint Joseph Health to learn more about omicron and how vaccines are being used to protect against it. He says he hopes it will continue to be the case that the omicron strain causes mild cases of covid.
