The CCP virus outbreak has significantly affected the job market in the United States. Millions of Americans are working from home and many are looking for remote jobs amid lockdowns that states have imposed. Career coach Roy Cohen says it’s important to understand what opportunities are available in the current marketplace.
“Sadly, individuals who work in bankruptcy and turnaround are going to be in great demand. Individuals who work in risk management and credit are going to be highly desired,” said Roy Cohen, a career counselor and executive coach.
Cohen says those who are looking for work need to be clear on what they want and what they have to offer. He says it’s also important to offer gratitude to potential employers when reaching out to them virtually on sites like LinkedIn to make them want to help you.
“If [an employer] is working in an organization, [ask yourself], ‘What can I do that will, in some way, offer up some ideas and solutions that could be helpful to them,'” Cohen said. “So there are lots of things that we can be doing. The worst possible thing is to reach out to an individual and just simply ask them for a job.”
He tells his clients it’s important to be patient when waiting to hear back, citing a longer decision-making process. It’s also a good idea to emphasize that you’re comfortable working remotely—something he says will become more common.
“I think that’s going to be a major component, working virtually—less travel. Travel options are just simply not available, and it’s far less expensive to have folks work remotely,” he said.
Companies can save around $11,000 per year if a half-time employee telecommutes, according to Global Workplace Analytics. Employees can also save around $3,000 a year if they work from home half the time, thanks to spending less on food and transportation. Cohen says more companies are getting used to a remote workforce.
