A suspect has been arrested for the alleged kidnapping of a woman caught on a doorbell camera. The woman was also found safe.

The video showed a woman ringing the doorbell of a property near Southeast 32nd Avenue and E. Main Street before a man ran up to her and grabbed her as she screamed for help. The man picked up the woman and carried her to what appeared to be a white pickup truck before driving off. The alleged attack happened in Hillsboro, a Portland, Oregon suburb, shortly before 11 p.m. On April 21, as reported by local news outlet KGW News.

“In the early morning hours of April 22nd, Hillsboro Police received a report of a kidnapping captured on a community member’s doorbell camera,” according to a statement by Hillsboro Police Department.

The woman, who looks like she’s in her late 20s or early 30s, appears to have light-colored hair and is wearing glasses and a light-colored outfit. The alleged kidnapper is dark-haired, with short hair and beard, and is wearing a long-sleeved light-colored top and dark trousers. The man appears to be roughly the same age as the woman.

Police are now investigating the possible kidnapping after they announced on April 23 that they had a suspect in custody, having previously confirmed the woman was grabbed by the man, according to the video evidence.

Police later confirmed that both the suspect and victim had been identified.

“By the early morning hours of April 23rd, the suspect and victim were identified. The suspect was arrested and the victim is safe. The suspect and victim knew each other and this was not a random attack.  The suspect is charged with kidnapping,” according to the statement.

One resident who lives at the Hillsboro property told KGW that the woman’s screams were particularly distressing and that she and other residents were traumatized after viewing the doorbell camera footage.

Identified only as Marisol, the resident who wished for her identity to remain anonymous, told the outlet that she did not recognize either of the people in the video but contacted 911 immediately after receiving a video alert.
Marisol said the woman’s heartstopping screams still haunt her as she told reporters about witnessing the horrifying incident.

“The way she grabs on to the door on the video, if you see it, that is not normal. I just want her to be found. I just want to know that she’s safe,” she said.

The police statement went on to say that the suspect and victim’s names would not be released until further notice, and they thanked the community for its assistance.
