Shen Yun Performing Arts visited Orlando, Florida at the Dr. Phillips Center of Performing Arts for 5 days from March 13- 17. Audience members were impressed by an unforgettable journey through 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.

“Beautiful, the costumes are beyond amazing,” said former surgeon Nance Whitaker. “The colors, the dance, we are overwhelmed with how beautiful everything is.”

“I was fortunate enough to be in front, and I could actually see a lot of the different instruments that you had there. I think bringing some of the traditional Chinese instruments was great. And then the way they announced it and showed us the instruments was very, very, very, very well done just to kind of learn,”  said Dr. Deborah Harding CEO of Harding Medical Institute. “The orchestra was great, and the music was great.”

“It was really a great show, I think just bringing in the culture and bringing in all the sounds and the beauty and all the different colors, the way it was put together was really spectacular,” she added.

Reviving Culture

Dr. Harding, a mother of six, expressed her appreciation for Shen Yun’s efforts to revive traditional culture and said it is important not only for Chinese people but also for the rest of the world.

“I think that’s important. I think if we lose our history, then we’re lost as a people” she said. “I think teaching us what went on in the past and bringing that now to the future, to what we have now at this time frame and actually to be able to combine those things I think is very important.”

“Bringing that tradition here and showing us what you do and what’s happened in the world and all the changes is really very important. I think we lose that, we’ve lost a lot of things as a culture,” Dr. Harding added.

After the communists took power in 1949, the regime sought to break people’s belief in Divine. She was heartbroken to find out that persecution of belief is still going on in China, and hopes that the situation will change with the efforts of the performance.

“I think when you see that it makes me sad, when I see the persecution,” she said. “And I wish there would be a way that maybe that would change, maybe by doing what you do and showing that, that will make change happen.”

“I think seeing everything so elaborately, beautifully working everything together and the world will work together as a show like this, the world will be a better place to live,” said Dr. Carlos R. Colon, dentist and owner of Ocoee Family Dentistry.
