Two young, orphaned mountain lion siblings were rescued and transported to Oakland Zoo Tuesday by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The cubs were found after a female mountain lion—believed to be their mother—was hit and killed by a car on Saturday near the Bay Area community of Hillsborough. The zoo’s veterinary hospital staff conducted a physical exam on the cubs, which are said to be dehydrated but doing well.
