Over 40,000 Pounds of Ground Beef Recalled Due to Possible Contamination

More than 40,000 pounds of ground beef was recalled due to possibly containing extraneous materials.

The recall of approximately 43,292 pounds of ground beef products was issued because they may contain pieces of hard plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said.

The products were produced on March 20, by JBS Plainwell Inc., based in Plainwell, Michigan. The products were sold in retailers including Meijer stores in Michigan and Wisconsin.

All the products have the establishment number “EST. 562M” inside the USDA mark of inspection or printed on the bottom of the label.

The problem was discovered after two consumers found green hard plastic in JBS products they had purchased, authorities said in a press release. The health risk is classified as “low.”

Anyone who has the products should throw them out or return them to the place of purchase; anyone who believes they got injured or ill from consuming the potentially contaminated products should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers and members of the media with questions about the recall can contact Misty Barnes, corporate communications at JBS at (970) 506-7805.
