Experts say heavy drinkers drank more during the lockdowns and that this could lead to thousands of extra hospital admissions and deaths. In a worst-case scenario, pandemic drinking would rise to 1 million extra hospital admissions and 25,000 deaths, costing the NHS 5 billion pounds ($6 billion) over 20 years.
