A new study has found that concerns about the pandemic drove a surge in gun sales in California.

Researchers at the University of California wanted to see how the virus outbreak impacted peoples’ tendency to worry about violence—and how this affected gun and ammunition sales.

The researchers found that around 110,000 Californians who recently bought guns did so due to pandemic-related worries. Around 47,000 of these were first-time gun buyers.
