Several books from the 1970’s have beautiful coverings which boast such sophistication it looks as though they were printed using modern digital technology. The secret behind such beautiful mastery was a technique called marbling. Marbling uses liquid colors to create masterpieces. All it takes is a steady hand … a very steady hand.
Once the book cover was ready it was transferred to paper. A special thick paper was placed on top of the water basin where it remained for a few seconds as color absorbed. The paper was then rinsed to remove excess paint.
