Paper marbling – the original digital printing

Several books from the 1970’s have beautiful coverings which boast such sophistication it looks as though they were printed using modern digital technology. The secret behind such beautiful mastery was a technique called marbling. Marbling uses liquid colors to create masterpieces. All it takes is a steady hand … a very steady hand.

Once the book cover was ready it was transferred to paper. A special thick paper was placed on top of the water basin where it remained for a few seconds as color absorbed. The paper was then rinsed to remove excess paint.
