They go through thick and thin – a Brazilian man and his Patagonian penguin Jinjing. Brazilian man Joao Pereira de Souza found the penguin in 2011 lying on the beach right in front of his house. The penguin was soaked in oil, so Souza decided to help him, cared for him and fed him sardines daily. This way, the penguin could improve his strength and Mr Souza could soon go to the beach and set him free.
To Mr. Souza’s surprise the penguin didn’t want to leave. When Jinjing finally left, Mr. Souza was amazed to find Jinjing has come back after a couple of months. Since then, Jinjing returns to him every year, spending up to eight months of the year with him, while spending the rest of his time off the coast of Chile and Argentina breeding.
