A Mississippi woman was touched by the patience of a Walmart cashier, who helped a nervous shopper count handfuls of change.

Spring Herbison Bowlin was standing in the checkout line in a local Walmart when the man in front of her proceeded to pay with coins.

“This gentleman’s items were scanned and he was given the total,” she wrote on Facebook. “He looks apologetically back at me and starts taking handfuls of change out of his pockets.”

Yet the man miscounted and started to get flustered, she said.

“I’m so sorry,” he muttered, his hands and voice shaking.

What happened next warmed Bowlin’s heart.

“This beautiful cashier takes his hands and dumps all the change on the counter and says, ‘This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together.’” she said.

The man continued to apologize to both Bowlin and the cashier, but both reassured him it was fine.

“They get his transaction handled and he shuffles away,” Bowlin said. “I looked at this wonderful woman and said, ‘Thank-you for being so patient with him.’”

But the cashier shook her head. “You shouldn’t have to thank me, baby. What’s wrong with our world is we’ve forgotten how to love one another,” the cashier said.

“I want to be more like her,” Bowlin concluded.

She snapped a picture of the scene and posted it on Facebook together with her recount of it. The post has been shared more than 436,000 times.

A similar situation was captured and went viral in 2016 when a Target employee in Indianapolis patiently helped an elderly customer count her change.

“Never once did this employee huff, gruff or roll his eyes,” noted another shopper, Sarah Owen Bigler, impressed with the man’s attitude. She was glad to have her daughter along too. “I thought, this stranger is teaching something I could never teach her,” Bigler said.

The cashier, Ishmael Gilbert, was later interviewed by media.

“I treat everyone with the same respect. And I get it back in return,” he told WXIN.

In a similar story last year, a photo of a cashier taken at grocery chain Hy-Vee went viral on social media.

The photo shows a cashier, identified only as Connor helping a family he did not know at the Hy-Vee located in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Charis Hope Hansen, a fellow shopper, snapped the photo on Monday, Jan. 15, with a description detailing what she saw.

Hansen said the family in front of her was scraping for pennies and only had less than $3 on their EBT card (an electronic card containing cash benefits).

The shopper said she saw the pennies roll down the conveyor belt as Connor tried his best to pick up each one and count it, without any complaints.

She then saw Connor taking cash out of his own wallet and paid $2, so the family could purchase the few items they were trying to get.

“When he did it, he did it like it was no big deal,” Hansen wrote on Facebook. “This young man went above and beyond for this customer and I would love to see this man be recognized for an outstanding employee.”

“What an act of selflessness and kindness to help someone less fortunate,” she added.

Comments on the post all praised the young man’s actions

Another person commented that she shared the photo to the grocery chain and got a response from them stating they would “certainly recognize him” for his service.
