NEW YORK—An eerie silence fell over Manhattan Tuesday night. The city had two overlapping lockdowns. One from the virus and the other from a curfew to quell the protests and riots over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.

A group of protesters crossed the East River from Brooklyn into Manhattan. At the mouth of the bridge, the police intercepted them. A police officer at the scene said the protesters and police may be trying to come to a resolution to put an end to the protests.

Rioters and looters reportedly ransacked businesses primarily owned by minorities in the Bronx. The mayor said he spoke with the Bronx borough president a few nights ago. The Bronx president pointed to local kids who pitched in to clean up after the destruction.
