Peacock runs amok in LA liquor store

The manager of an LA-area liquor store had to deal with an unruly patron.

Not a drunk; not a shoplifting teen. A female peacock, a peahen.
“I was sitting down doing the paperwork for the store and all of the sudden this lady comes in
and she’s like ‘Hey, you’ve got a bird,’” said store manager Rani Ghanem.

When Ghanem investigated, he found the two-foot-long bird sitting atop a display of fine wines.

Ghanem called Animal Control, and helped the officer net the bird—but not before she did even more damage, this time to a display of champagne.

The bird was released unharmed. The store’s merchandise didn’t fare so well.

“You’ve got expensive tastes,” Ghanem told the captive bird. “You break, you buy dude.

Ghanem laughed ruefully. “But, clearly, he didn’t. Got away with it.”

Peacocks were introduced into Arcadia by the town’s founder and are protected birds in the area.
