Pelosi Visit Activates Memories of a Past Crisis

With U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi standing on Taiwanese soil, for some, the sight brought memories flooding back from the last time the island stood at the brink of a full-scale crisis with Beijing.

From 1995 to 1996, tensions soared between Taipei, Beijing, and Washington. The dispute peaked when Beijing fired missiles just 30 miles from Taiwan.
