Pelosi Vows to Champion Social Justice

Nancy Pelosi has outlined some of the Democrats’ priorities for the new Congressional term, with a heavy focus on social justice. Pelosi was reelected to be the House Speaker in a tight vote on Sunday, when the new Congress took office. She’ll lead the narrowest majority in two decades.

Nancy Pelosi outlined Democrats’ priorities on the House floor Sunday.

“We must pursue justice, economic justice, justice in health, racial justice, environmental and climate justice, the list goes on.”

She said she will set up a bipartisan committee that will fight to reduce differences in wealth and income.

The panel is called the Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth. She says it will propose policies to, quote, “power fair economic growth to make our economy work for everyone.”

Pelosi’s emphasis on social justice initiatives will likely reinforce conservative worries about the Democrat party’s shift to the left, and concern about the growth in profile of the party’s far-left faction.
