DoorDash, a food delivery service, fired a delivery driver after a Pennsylvania man accused her of eating his BBQ ribs.

“We sincerely regret that this incident fell short of the experience we strive to give our customers every day,” a DoorDash spokesman said, Fox News reported.

In a statement to Fox News the company said it had removed the driver from its system “immediately” after they were made aware of the incident.

In addition, the driver no longer has access to their delivery system because she failed to “follow and maintain our standards of food safety.”

DoorDash told Fox that they also offered Chris Payton, the customer from York County, a refund for the inconvenience.

Payton told Fox 43 that he ordered six ribs from Dickey’s Barbecue using the DoorDash food delivery app.

When a customer makes an order on the app, DoorDash sends a driver to the restaurant to pick up the order and deliver it to the customer.

When Payton received his order, he opened the container only to find two ribs that looked like someone had taken a bite from.

“I was just dumbfounded I was really shocked that something like that would happen,” said Payton, NBC 2 reported.

He couldn’t help but express his disbelief that people would abuse a customer’s trust.

“It’s just crazy, I don’t understand people. Why they would do something like that?” said Payton. “It’s somebody’s food, you pay for that you expect to get it. You pay for a service,” he said, according to CNN.

“I guess she just pulls over to the side of the road and just decides to have herself a little snack before she delivers,” Payton told Fox 43.

Dickey’s Barbecue employees said they previously had complaints about that same driver.

Although things have worked out for Payton with the refund, he emphasized the importance of the lesson that needed to be learned from this incident.

“Treat your customers with respect, treat somebody like you would like to be treated yourself,” Payton said, Fox 43 reported.

Various Customer Responses

In relation to delivery drivers tampering with food, Bryan Mitchell from California claimed that a DoorDash “Dasher” ruined his date night.

He claimed that the app on his phone said that the food was delivered even though he hadn’t received it.

“My food was picked up by one of their Dashers and was noted as delivered yet I never got my food, it was stolen!” Mitchell said.

So Mitchell took to Facebook and posted a screenshot of the allegedly poor customer response he received.

“This was customer service’s response to my ruined evening and hours on the phone trying to get this resolved!” he added.

The screenshot of DoorDash’s response includes an apology for the inconvenience, a $5 refund, and $16 of DoorDash credits.

Another customer, Nicole Hayes, made a similar complaint regarding theft and DoorDash in a Facebook post.

“Here’s a #protip — Stay away from DoorDash. First, they won’t deliver your food because the delivery driver will steal it,” Hayes said.

She claimed that her order was stolen and she allegedly never received compensation.

“Second, when you let their support team know they’ll offer you compensation for the missed food,” she added. “Promise they’re here for you, and other corporate shrill [sic] they’re paid minimum wage to type and then you’ll never get it back.”

Although Tiffany Walker, another customer, didn’t mention what had gone wrong with her delivery, she praised DoorDash’s quality customer service, even comparing it to the popular UberEats.

“Thank you Doordash for quickly resolving my complaint about my Delivery! Much better response than I got from UberEats, and you kept my future Business!”

“As a first-time customer, I was impressed. Thank you.”
