Hiking is fun, until you get trapped.

On Thanksgiving Day, Jonny Motto was hiking along a trail in Phoenix named “Fat Man’s Pass.” According to officials, Jonny deviated from the main hiking trail and fell into a crevice.

That was when he found himself pinned in, unable to get out.

“And I kept slipping down in and I felt like a snake was constricting around my chest and it was getting harder and harder to breathe,” says Jonny.

Jonny’s wife, Jana, tried to ask the people around to pull him out but failed.

“Him being wedged in between those two very large boulders presented its own challenges on how they were gonna free him, luckily they were able to get him out just with hands and force,” says Danny Gile from the Phoenix Fire Department.

Jonny is thankful for the crew, who scaled the mountain and was successful in lifting Jonny out of the crevice.

“I feel like I’m a very fortunate person, I’m blessed, there’s no doubt about it.”
