Rishi Sunak’s government this week blocked Scotland’s gender reform from becoming law. The legislation, which passed through the Scottish Parliament in December, would make it easier for people to legally change gender, including removing the need for a medical diagnosis. But it’s now been vetoed, with Alister Jack, the Scotland secretary, saying that he was concerned the law would seriously impact the UK-wide equalities law and the operation of single-sex clubs, associations, and schools.
